Our earth continues to orbit and Covid 19 continues to challenge —- thoughts from the massage cabin 10/4/20
Seasons have changed and I find myself continuing to sprint ahead of the protocols for Covid 19 safety. The days are cooler, and shorter, the pumpkins plump and the mums are festive. With the oncoming chill, I am fitting out the massage cabin with a vigorous air exchange system, air purifiers, and a high power heat pump. Keeping fans running and windows open, while the best possible airflow answer, is just not reasonable in October, and won’t work well again ‘till May. Pout.
There have been many improvements and additions to my work world since I put up this website in June. I have learned a bunch about a preposterous number of things, and I would like to share some of them with you.
Did you know that it is possible to fit a massage table headrest with a mask? After countless different renditions, I have a good way to keep it all safe, and still have my folks able to breathe while face down. Some of the interim attempts were hysterical for all of us, with airborne bulldog clips, flapping pieces of fabric, other foolishness and a lot of apologies on my part.
Likewise, since I do work with my feet as well as my hands, there was a comical learning curve with sanitizing my feet when I step up onto the table. Let’s just say that the floor game “Twister” has nothing on my gyrations. This, too, was solved and is smooth sailing now.
Currently, the concern for surface contamination from Covid 19 is less of a panic, but I have not backed off with my protocols. Between each person, all surfaces are sprayed with an aggressive virus-cide, wiped down and the room is fan vented to dry. All sheets and my clothing are changed between each person as well. My extra time in the schedule seems to allow for this to work, and since it cannot hurt to keep it up, I am. The only thing that I am sad about is that my old supervisor dog, Kona, hates the new, hard space and would rather lounge in the house. I miss him and visit with him on the hour.
There is no clear map to where this all is heading, and for when we might actually be able to smile at each other without masks and distance. All we all can do is our best… masks, distancing, common sense, and good intent. I cannot imagine what the upcoming holiday season will look like - but, anyone who knows me well, knows that the cabin will be as festive as my imagination will allow. I’m not sure that the 100 amp service into it will drive all the holiday lights!
